Although a university degree is not an official pre-requisite, most actuaries study in mathematics, economics, commerce, accounting, business administration, computer science or marketing. Others choose to attend one of several Canadian universities offering a specialized degree in actuarial science. It helps prepare students for the professional examinations required to obtain the designation of Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the right to call themselves an actuary.
